A report is useful only when it belongs to the product and batch in your hand. Compare the brand or processor, product name, lot or batch code, sample identifier, and relevant dates. If the page is generic or the identifiers do not match, the cannabinoid table cannot safely be assigned to that package.
A QR code should make this check easier. Ask the retailer or processor when it does not.
Read units before comparing potency.
Percent, milligrams per gram, and milligrams per serving answer different questions. Flower reports often use percentage or weight-based units. Edibles and tinctures commonly use milligrams per serving and per package. Do not place unlike units in the same ranking.
Also distinguish an individual cannabinoid from a calculated total. Reports may list acidic and neutral forms separately.
Understand what a pass means.
A compliant result applies to tested panels and the sampled batch under the report’s method. Reports can include pesticides, microbes, heavy metals, residual solvents, moisture, mycotoxins, or other required analyses depending on product type and rules. A pass does not make cannabis suitable for every person or every use.
The COA is a traceability tool. Health conditions, medication, pregnancy, impairment, and serving decisions still require separate judgment.
